- The Japan Surgical Society confers the Best Reviewer Award on reviewers who have completed a high number of peer reviews for manuscripts submitted to Surgery Today.
- In principle, the top five reviewers based on the number of completed reviews are selected.
- A reviewer cannot receive the Best Reviewer Award in two consecutive years.
- Recipients are selected by the Editorial Committee and finalized following deliberation by the Board of Directors.
- Awardees receive a commemorative plaque.
